Privacy and data
Pokémon Game Night is a free fan project run by one person, its maker. This page explains in plain English what the site stores when you visit and play, why, for how long, and how to see or delete it. There are no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking cookies. Last updated 13 October 2026.
Questions and requests
Use the Message the maker box on the home page. If your message is about your data, include your visitor id (shown below) so your records can be found.
What is stored when you visit
- Your IP address, and the country it belongs to. The country is looked up offline on our own server; your IP address is not sent anywhere for this.
- Your browser's language settings and timezone.
- Your device type, browser and operating system, worked out from the user agent your browser sends.
- The page you opened, the site that linked you here, and the campaign tag if the link had one (like
?ref=discord). - A random visitor id stored in your browser's localStorage, and whether this is your first visit. It is not linked to any account. If you send a message, the name on it is stored with your id.
- Lobby and game activity linked to that id: which game, when a lobby is created or joined, when a game starts and ends, and your country.
- Error reports when a page breaks: the error, the page, your browser and your visitor id.
- Messages you send through the Message the maker box, with the name you give (or, if you leave it blank, the player name you entered on the home screen), your IP address, country, device and visitor id.
Player names and chat exist only in the server's memory while a lobby is open, and are not logged (except a player name used as the name on a message).
Why
To decide which languages to translate the site into, to understand where players come from, to find and fix bugs, and to prevent abuse such as spam. The legal basis is legitimate interests: running, improving and protecting a free site. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.
How long
- Visit records, including IP addresses, are deleted after 90 days.
- What remains are counts per day (for example, visits per country) with no IP address or visitor id, kept for up to about 2 years.
- Error reports are deleted 90 days after the error last happened.
- Messages are kept until they are deleted.
Who else is involved
- Railway hosts the site, so your requests pass through its servers.
- Pokémon pictures and sounds load from GitHub, so your browser contacts GitHub directly, as it does with any site it loads files from.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data stored about you, ask for it to be deleted, or object to it being collected. Send a message with your visitor id; the message itself carries your IP address, which helps find your visits. Deleting removes your visit and lobby rows, your messages, and your id from game records and error reports. If you are unhappy with the answer, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Your visitor id and settings
…
These settings only apply to this browser. With Don't count my visits on, your page loads are not recorded, and lobbies, games, messages and error reports are no longer linked to a visitor id. Reset my id gives you a fresh id on your next visit; records under the old one stay until they expire, unless you ask for them to be deleted.
